Photos: Edna Garbutt - My life at Bletchley
On Monday, 4th July we were treated to a fascinating talk by Edna Garbutt who spent time in the 1940s working at Bletchley park. She told of her early life and how she was drafted into War Work. The tortuous route from civilian life to one of the most secret jobs aiding our war effort was described. The Thirty Year rule having long passed she was able to go into some detail of her part decoding enemy messages. Apart from the real work there was a social life, but you had to be constantly on you guard as security were constantly trying to catch you out. Now in her 90s her memory is still sharp and able to engage an audience.
Thank you Edna for one our most engaging evenings for a long time.
